  • levodopa (L-DOPA)

Waarschuwing:

  • Op de zaadpeulen van de fluweelboom (Mucuna pruriens; er bestaat een ander gewas dat ook fluweelboom heet, namelijk Rhus typhina) zitten borstelharen die extreem irriterend zijn voor de huid, de ogen en de slijmvliezen.
  • In de zaden en de wortel van Mucuna pruriens is levodopa aangetroffen.
  • Omdat deze stof tegenwoordig de hoeksteen is van de behandeling van de ziekte van Parkinson, wordt de plant in alternatieve behandelwijzen gepropageerd voor gebruik bij deze ziekte.
