Belangrijke inhoudsstoffen:

  • antioxidanten
  • vitamine C

Waarschuwing:

  • Vlierbloesem is veilig in gebruik.
  • Ook de rijpe bessen zijn geschikt voor consumptie, maar vermijd de onrijpe bessen, want deze bevatten het giftige blauwzuur.
  • Het eten van te veel rijpe bessen ineens kan eveneens tot blauwzuurvergiftiging leiden, met als gevolg: misselijkheid, braken en diarree. Het beste kan men vliersap drinken, dit is ook antiviraal.
  • Een antigriepmiddel is sambucol, een combinatie van bloesems en bessen.
  • De bladeren en takken van de vlier zijn toxisch.
